First PTA Meeting  


COHISS had a successful PTA meeting today, with over 150 participants, including parents and staff. This demonstrates the school and parents' mutual effort to work together for the better education of their children. Below is the agenda for the meeting: 

                                   AGENDA

Guest Speaker:   Mr. Emmanuel K. Yeboah, Asst. Headmaster, Prempeh College, Kumasi

Headmaster’s Progress Report: Mr. Emmanuel Osei-Kwaku

 Management:

·        New Appointment- Mr. Stephen Gyamfi, Managing Director

·        New Appointment- Ms. Juana Fosu, Bursar/Account

·        New Appointment- Mr. J. R. Yeboah, External Auditor

·       Currently forming a New 7-Member Board of Directors (Must include 2 PTA Members)

 Teachers:

·        Hired Experienced and Dedicated Teachers

·        Ongoing Training of all Teachers in Computer Technologies

·        Increased Teachers Salary Effective January 2004.

·        Enhanced Teacher and Management Relationship

·        Encouragement of Teachers to Recommend New and Better Ideas for Improvement of the School to Management/Headmaster

 Facilities:

·        Completion of a New 2 Storey Building (New Classrooms) to alleviate over-crowding and provide small class sizes

·       Ongoing work on School Facilities to Enhance Child Safety

·       Completion of New Staff/Teacher Common Room

·        Assignment of a classroom for a Computer Room/Lab

·        Completed Project on Sanitation Improvement

Computer Technology:

·        New Course- Computer Technologies Training for all Students

·        Formation of Computer Clubs (Comprising Students and Teachers)

Sister School Partnership

·        Ongoing negotiation with foreign schools to Form Partnership on the following basis

Ø      Enhancement of COHISS Christian Affiliation and Doctrine

Ø      Cultural Exchange and Understanding

Ø      Global  Awareness

Ø      Exchange of Gifts  

Sports, Clubs  & Extra-curricula Activities:

·        Expansion of Sporting Activities

·        Formation of New Student Organizations;

Ø      Religious Clubs 

Ø      Boys Scout

Ø      Red Cross

Ø      African Dancing Club

Ø      Computer Club

Ø      Community Services/Volunteer Club

 School Fees & Scholarships:

·        Proposed School Fees Increase Next Academic Year

·        Introduction of Partial Scholarships to Talented and NEEDY Students.

 Focus Group:

·        We are planning a Focus group with representatives from across town to come to our school and answer a few questions regarding their perceptions of COHISS.

·        Spend time throughout the year via newspapers and Internet to promote COHISS’ image.

 Open House:

·        Determine Open House date to invite prospective parents and students to visit school facilities, meet with staff and teachers to learn about the school 

 Jump Start on Basic School Certificate Examination (BSCE):

·        We currently have about 17 students getting ready to sit for BSCE in April, 2004. In our effort to ensure their success, the school has taken the following steps:

Ø      Hired Examiners to Prep Students for exams

Ø      Offered almost 6 months of free before/after hours classes for all JHS3 students

Ø      Weekly Practice and Mock BSCE Examination

Promote the concept of self-help by parents for the success of school
