Managing Director Welcome 2005/2006 Report

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am, indeed, delighted to welcome all of you; teachers, non-teaching staff, students and parents back to the Call of Hope International School (COHISS) community.  As the managing director (MD) in the last two years, I continue to see great strides and achievements by the school. The credit goes to all members of the COHISS community, including teaching staff, non-teaching staff, students, parents and administrators.

Academically, the school has achieved a lot that we all can be proud of. Among its many accomplishments is that our candidates did very well in the 2004 and 2005 Basic Education Certification Examinations (BECE), earning them enrolments at prestigious schools such as Kumasi High, Prempeh College, St. Louis, Kumasi Academy, Kumasi Anglican Secondary School, etc.  Also worthy to mention is that the COHISS participated and won numerous Ghana Education Service sponsored inter JHS-schools Math & Science, English and French quizzes held in the Kumasi metropolis.

There is, however, more room for improvement despite of our current academic successes.  The school must endeavour to maintain 100% BECE pass rate as it has done in the last two years, as well as, at least, 50% of our candidates achieving aggregate six (6) in the 2006 BECE.  Though it sounds overly ambitious, I believe that with discipline, dedication, hard work, high expectation, and also teamwork between administrators, teachers, students and parents, we can make it happen!

In terms of infrastructure development, you are all aware of the significant improvements that have taken place in the last couple of years, i.e. new classrooms, a computer lab, internet cafe, etc.  Yet, our limited space restricts our ability to expand our facilities and other physical infrastructure. The management therefore intends to acquire about 12-15 acres of land for a new site development that will include a modern sports stadium, ITC facility, a library, boarding and other facility. The development of the new site is projected to be completed in 2009.

The introduction of the school's new uniform (Navy blue and white colour scheme) has also been well received by the entire COHISS community. At present, about 70% of our pupils have already purchased the new uniforms and I encourage parents or guardians of the remaining students who have not yet purchased their new uniforms to do so. With COHISS' growing popularity and academic reputation, our new uniform gives us a credible identity.

Mr. Julius Ayimasu, the Assistant Headmaster of the school, has also been directed by the school's management to encourage teachers to volunteer some of their leisure time in rejuvenating campus associations such as Math & Science Club, Cultural and Drama Club, French Club, Computer Club, Debate Club, Red Cross, etc. to not only keep students engaged in extra curricular activities, but also to offer them the opportunity to learn leadership skills.  In return, teachers’ active participation will partly determine their salary raise, future promotions, bonuses and recognition.

And so, let all of us redouble our efforts in growing COHISS to become the best that we ALL CAN BE PROUD OF!

Best Wishes.
